Split Stitch

Split stitch: the needle pierces fabric, then is brought up through the center of the previous stitch, splitting the thread. It forms a slightly raised line ideal for outlines, small fills, and textured curves. Use even spacing and consistent tension—short stitches for fine detail, longer stitches for a looser look. It creates a similar appearance to chain stitch.
