French Knot
The French knot is a small, textured embroidery stitch used to create raised dots and fine details like flower centers, eyes, or decorative accents. To make one: bring the needle up through the fabric, wrap the thread around the needle one or two times (fewer wraps for a tighter knot), hold the wraps taut with your non-dominant hand, then insert the needle back into the fabric very close to—but not in the same hole as—where it emerged. Pull the needle through slowly while keeping tension on the wraps so the thread coils into a neat knot on the surface. Practice tension and wrap count to control knot size and avoid snagging the fabric. When you change the number of wraps on the needle, the knot size changes.
