Chain Stitch
Chain stitch is a decorative embroidery stitch that forms a series of looped stitches resembling linked chains. It’s worked by bringing the needle up through the fabric, creating a loop, then inserting the needle back into the same spot or slightly ahead and bringing it up again inside the loop to catch it, repeating to form a continuous line. Chain stitch is versatile—used for outlines, filling shapes, and decorative borders—and available in variations like single chain, loose chain, and twisted chain. It provides a textured, continuous line that’s both durable and visually distinctive, making it popular in hand embroidery and surface stitching.
