Couching Stitch
Couching: lay a main thread (can be thick), cord, or trim on the fabric and hold it with small stitches of finer thread.
How to:
Position the Main thread in the desired line or shape.
Make small tack stitches across it with finer thread, catching only a few fibers each time.
Keep stitches neat and evenly spaced so the thick thread lies flat.
Secure the fine thread with a knot on the back.
Tips:
Place stitches closer on curves or joins.
Use matching fine thread to blend, or contrasting thread for decoration.
Good for metallics, ribbons, yarns, and bullion threads that can’t be passed through fabric.
Practice on scrap fabric to avoid puckering.
