Bullion Stitch
Bullion stitch is a lovely, textured embroidery stitch that looks like a tiny, raised coil. You make it by wrapping the thread around the needle many times, then gently pulling the needle through those wraps to form a neat, cylindrical knot. It’s perfect for flower centers, little buds, insect bodies, and any spot where you want a bit of dimensional, rope-like detail.
A couple of tips to keep it easy and fun:
Keep your wraps even and your tension balanced. Wrap too tightly and the needle will be hard to pull through; too loose and the coils will look uneven.
Vary the number of wraps to change the length of the stitch.
If you have difficulty pulling the needle through the fabric and coil, try using a larger needle than usual. A slightly bigger needle creates a larger hole in the fabric, making it easier to thread multiple strands through.
