Seed Stitch

Seed stitch is a simple, textured embroidery fill made by alternating short, individual straight stitches across a surface to create a scattered, pebble-like effect. Each stitch is typically the same length and placed randomly but evenly so no clear rows form; stitches are worked in opposite directions on successive rows to avoid visible lines. It’s excellent for filling small areas, adding subtle texture to backgrounds, or suggesting foliage and grain. Seed stitch is beginner-friendly, effective with single or multiple colors, and looks neat at small scale for hand-embroidered motifs or details in kits and art pieces.
