Woven Wheel / Spiderweb Rose

The woven wheel, also called the wagon wheel or spiderweb rose stitch, creates a raised circular rosette by weaving thread over a spoke-like foundation. Use an odd number of spokes—five is common, while three works well for a tiny rose. Stitch evenly spaced straight spokes radiating from a central point, then weave the working thread over and under the spokes in a circular progression, maintaining even tension so the woven surface sits slightly raised and dense. Adjust the number and spacing of the spokes to change the wheel’s size and fullness: more spokes yield a tighter, fuller wheel, while fewer spokes produce a looser, petal-like effect.
